This video on the Matthew 18 process is the second a two part subseries in the larger video series Set-apart Communities. In this video series, we have been talking about establishing set-apart communities in order to help believers survive the end times. As well as how to establish set-apart communities, why they are so important, and why Yahweh expects us all to belong to set-apart communities.
And as we saw in our study on the “Beit Din Structure“, in the Discipleship the Kingdom and You video series, just as the nuclear family is the building block of society, the set-apart community is the basic building block of Yeshua’s Kingdom. So, if we want to build Yeshua’s Kingdom, then we need to take part in a set-apart community. It is one of those things that we can do that automatically helps to build Yeshua’s Kingdom. It is so very important.
In the first part of “The Matthew 18 Process”, we explained what the Matthew 18 Process is and why set-apart communities are such an important part of building Yeshua’s Kingdom. So that when we go to the judgment we will hear “Well done, good and faithful servant”. We talked about how set-apart communities are a part of establishing global unity in Yeshua’s body, as well as the benefits of being part of a set-apart community. We also explained why the practice of Lashon HaRa is incorrect and contrary to what Scripture teaches.
In this second segment, we want to dive deeper into how, in Matthew 18, Yeshua describes the characteristics that set-apart leadership must have in order to properly lead, edify, and unify a set-apart community in order to establish Yeshua’s kingdom on earth. And how this compares to commonly held Christian theology today.
Christian theology: Everyone hears in the Spirit?
First it is important to emphasize that, contrary to common Christian theology, not every believer hears in the Spirit. (And this is why there is so much fragmentation in the body today.) And this creates a big obstacle when a group of believers want to be part of a set-apart community. When everyone believes that they know best, but do not hear in the Spirit, it causes division and confusion in the body.
And this is one reason why set-apart community is so important, and why set-apart community requires leadership who leads by example, walking and listening in the Spirit at all times, as well as members of Yeshua’s body who are willing to submit to the Spirit.
Mattityahu (Matthew) 16:24
24 Then Yeshua said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
Romim (Romans) 8:13
13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
Matthew 18
Oftentimes, people will skip ahead to Matthew 18 verse 15. But doing this will cause them to miss the important lessons Yeshua is teaching in the first part of Matthew 18. In this segment, we want to cover Matthew 18 verse 1 through verse 20 and explain the important lessons that Yeshua is speaking to His disciples. And as we continue through the study, we will begin to see how Matthew 18 describes the attitude and behavior we should have as Yeshua’s disciples.
Specific Matthew 18 lessons:
1. A child-like innocence, lack of hostility or envy, a genuine desire to care for one another. (verses 1-4)
2. Servant leadership, and caring for the flock. (verses 18:5)
3. Yahweh’s punishment upon leaders who mistreat the flock. (verses 18:6-7)
4. Leading by example and the need to deny the flesh vs being doubleminded. (verses 18:8-9)
5. The full-time responsibilities of being a good shepherd over the flock. (verses 18:10-11)
6. A true shepherd who cares for the flock vs a hireling. And there are many hirelings today! (verses 18:12-14)
7. The correct way to apply spiritual edification and correction over a member of the flock. (verses 18:15-17)
8. The true meaning of verses 18:18-20 and why leadership must be able to hear in the Spirit.
We will talk about all this and more. And please be sure to also watch the following segment, “The Matthew 18 Process part 2“.
