Question of the week
A viewer asked:
“How to you explain theses verses in the Torah. According to the law nobody can die for your sins, not even Yahshua…..and did the Roman soldiers take the role of the high priest? [??]
Here are the words of our creator
and we know His words are truth:“…The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin. Deuteronomy 24:16 But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge. Jeremiah 31:30…
“…The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him… [continued]…
“… But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. Ezekiel 18:20-21
If you need more verses let me know. Shalom.”
In summation, the viewer asks how Yeshua is able to die for the sins of the people. We explain this based upon the original definition of “atonement”, the example of Avraham and his son Yitzhak, and the Messianic prophecy of Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 53.
Torah portion:
Vayiqra (Leviticus) 19:1-20:27
We will discuss Yeshua’s commandment to observe (shomer, guard) all things that He commanded us. We will explain the Strong’s definition of “shomer”, and how the need to observe (keep and guard) Yahweh’s maritial covenant (the written Torah) relates to Yahweh’s command for us the ‘be set-apart’. We will talk about some of these things Yahweh commands from this week’s Torah protion.
Vayiqra (Leviticus) 19:1-2
1 And Yahweh spoke to Moshe, saying,
2 “Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel and say to them: ‘You shall be set-apart, for I Yahweh your Elohim am set-apart.”Mattityahu (Matthew) 28:20
20 “…teaching them to observe (shomer, guard) ALL things that I have commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amein.Strong’s H8104 שָׁמַר shâmar shaw-mar’
A primitive root; properly to hedge about (as with thorns), that is, guard; generally to protect, attend to, etc.: – beware, be circumspect, take heed (to self), keep (-er, self), mark, look narrowly, observe, preserve, regard, reserve, save (self), sure, (that lay) wait (for), watch (-man).
Haftarah:
Amos 9
In Amos 9, we will discuss Ephraim’s sin of idolatry, Elohim’s punishment upon the house of Ephraim, and His plans to reestablish the Tabernacle of David in the end-times, to restore the house of Ephraim. We will explain these and other verses in detail.
Amos 9:1
1 I saw Yahweh standing by the altar, and He said: “Strike the doorposts [capitals], that the thresholds may shake, And break them on the heads of them all. I will slay the last of them with the sword. He who flees from them shall not get away, And he who escapes from them shall not be delivered.”Amos 9:8
8 “Behold, the eyes of Yahweh are on the sinful kingdom [Ephraim], And I will destroy it from the face of the earth; Yet I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob [Ephraim],” Says Yahweh.Amos 9:11
11 “On that day I will raise up
The Tabernacle of David, which has fallen down,
And repair its damages; I will raise up its ruins,
And rebuild it as in the days of old…”12 “That they may possess the remnant of Edom,
And all the Gentiles who are called by My name,”
Says Yahweh who does this thing.Ma’asei (Acts) 15:15-16
15 And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written:
16 ‘AFTER THIS I WILL RETURN AND WILL REBUILD THE TABERNACLE OF DAVID, WHICH HAS FALLEN DOWN; I WILL REBUILD ITS RUINS, AND I WILL SET IT UP;
Brit Chadasha:
Qorintim Aleph (1 Corinthians) 6
In 1 Corinthians, we will explain Yeshua’s commandment to be actively building His kingdom the way He instructed for us to build it, as a single, unified body established upon the foundation of apostles and prophets. We will explain what is required for this grand commission, including active biblical leadership.
Galatim (Galatians) 5
Finally, we will examine the words of Shaliach Shaul (Apostle Paul) in Galatians 5. We will discuss what Shaul meant by some of the things he said, (and what he did not mean!). And why his words are often misinterpreted by those who are unlearned in the faith, and why it is important to take heed that nobody deceives us into believing that the Torah (marital covenant) has been ‘done-away-with’. We will also examine the Strong’s Concordance definition of the word ‘wicked’.
Kepha Bet (2 Peter) 3:16
16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.Kepha Bet (2 Peter) 3:17
17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;Strong G113 ἄθεσμος , athesmos
From G1 (as a negative particle) and a derivative of G5087 (in the sense of enacting); lawless, that is, (by implication) criminal: – wicked.
We hope you will join us for all this and more in Parasha Kedoshim 5784 (2024)
