Parasha Bechukotai explains about how idolatry and forsaking Yahweh’s written Torah led to the house of Joseph (Ephraim, or the northern house of Israel (and those of Judah dwelling with him)) going into the Assyrian diaspora, as well as Ephraim’s prophesied return.

In the Torah portion, we will see the consequenses of adding, taking away, or changing the commandments of Yahweh. In the Haftarah portion we will see Elohim’s goodness and mercy toward Ephraim, to bring the remnant back home. And in the Brit Chadasha portion we will examine how the written Torah commands us to keep Shabbat versus the fence laws instituted by the rabbinical order, and the problem with adding manmade laws to Elohim’s law.

B’reisheet (Genesis) 35:11-12
11  Also Elohim said to him: “I am El Shaddai. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body.
12  “The land which I gave Avraham and Yitzhak I give to you; and to your descendants after you I give this land.”

Torah portion: Vayiqra (Leviticus) 26:3-27:34

Idolatry

In this week’s Torah portion we discuss:

The Scripture definition of committing idolatry against Yahweh Elohim, and examples of idolatry in today’s world, in common practices many people keep…

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 26:1
1  ‘You shall not make idols for yourselves; neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves; nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am Yahweh your Elohim.

Strong’s H457
אֱלִיל  ‘ĕlı̂yl  el-eel’
Apparently from H408; good for nothing, by analogy vain or vanity; specifically an idol: – idol, no value, thing of nought.

Qolossim (Colossians) 3:5
5  Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

Blessings for obedience

The blessings promised to us when we obey Yahweh’s written Torah (or the written Torah of Moshe)…

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 26:2-12
2  “You shall keep My Sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary: I am Yahweh.”
3  “If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments, and perform them,
4  “then I will give you rain in its season, the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.”

5  “Your threshing shall last till the time of vintage, and the vintage shall last till the time of sowing; you shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.
6  “I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none will make you afraid; I will rid the land of evil beasts, and the sword will not go

7  “You will chase your enemies, and they shall fall by the sword before you.
8  “Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight; your enemies shall fall by the sword before you.

9  “For I will look on you favorably and make you fruitful, multiply you and confirm My covenant with you.
10  “You shall eat the old harvest, and clear out the old because of the new.”
11  “I will set My tabernacle among you, and My soul shall not abhor you.
12  “I will walk among you and be your Elohim, and you shall be My people.”

Disobedience to the written Torah

And the consequences upon His people for not obeying His Torah (the written Torah of Moshe).

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 26:14-18
14  “But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe ALL these commandments,
15  “…and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform ALL My commandments, but break My covenant…”
16  “I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart. And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.”

17  “I will set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you.
18  “And after all this, if you do not obey Me,
then I will punish you seven times
more for your sins.”

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 26:21
21  “Then, if you walk contrary to Me, and are not willing to obey Me, I will bring on you seven times more plagues, according to your
sins
.”

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 26:23-24
23  “And if by these things you are not reformed by Me, but walk contrary to Me,
24  “then I also will walk contrary to you, and I will punish you yet seven times for your sins.”

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 26:27-28
27  “And after all this, if you do not obey Me, but walk contrary to Me,
28  “then I also will walk contrary to you in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

Scattered among the nations

We explain how one consequence for disobedience to Yahweh’s written Torah is being scattered among the nations, and that this punishment is for a designated amount of time…

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 26:33-34
33  “I will scatter you among the nations and draw out a sword after you; your land shall be desolate and your cities waste.
34  “Then the land shall enjoy its sabbaths as long as it lies desolate and you are in your enemies’ land; then the land shall rest and enjoy its
sabbaths.”

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 26:38-39
38  “You shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.
39  “And those of you who are left shall waste away in their iniquity in your enemies’ lands; also in their fathers’ iniquities, which are with them, they shall waste away.”

Yahweh’s mercy

And how if His people repent and humble themselves, then Elohim will remember His Covenant with His people, and be merciful unto them.

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 26:40-42
40  “But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, with their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, and that they also have walked contrary to Me…”
41 “…and that I also have walked contrary to them and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if their uncircumcised hearts are humbled, and they accept their guilt
42  “…then I will remember My covenant with Yaakov, and My covenant with Yitzhak and My covenant with Avraham I will remember; I will remember the land.”

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 26:44-45
44  “Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, nor shall I abhor them, to utterly destroy them and break My covenant with them; for I am Yahweh their Elohim.”
45  “But for their sake I will remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their Elohim: I am Yahweh.’”

Prophecy of Ezekiel 4

We review the prophecy of Ephraim’s punishment seen in Ezekiel 4 and how this applies to the house of Joseph (Ephraim, Christians) today, and those of Judah dwelling with Ephraim in the Assyrian Diaspora…

Yehezqel (Ezekiel) 4:4-6
4  “Lie also on your left side, and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it. According to the number of the days that you lie on it, you shall bear their iniquity.
5  “For I have laid on you the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days; so you shall bear
the iniquity of the house of Israel.”
6  “And when you have completed them, lie again on your right side; then you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days. I have laid on you a day for each year.”

Parasha Behar, Diaspora, House of Israel, House of Israel Parasha Behar, Diaspora, House of Israel, House of Israel

Parasha Behar, Babylonian exile, Shemitta, Jubilee, House of Judah

And we explain why it is important to strive to be of the remnant of Ephraim who will survive the Tribulation and return home, obeying all of Elohim’s commandments and placing His kingdom before everything else, as our top priority in life.

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 27:32
32  “And concerning the tithe of the herd or the flock, of whatever passes under the rod, the tenth one shall be set-apart to Yahweh.”

Haftarah portion: Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah)16-17

Babylonian exile and Assyrian Diaspora

In this week’s Haftarah portion we take a look at the punishment of the Babylonian exile upon the house of Judah, and the punishment of the Assyrian Diaspora upon the house of Joseph (Ephraim, the northern house of Israel), as prophesied by the prophet Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah).

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 16:1-4
1  The word of Yahweh also came to me, saying,
2  “You shall not take a wife, nor shall you have sons or daughters in this place.”
3  “For thus says Yahweh concerning the sons and daughters who are born in this place, and concerning their mothers who bore them and their fathers who begot them in this land:”
4  “They shall die gruesome deaths; they shall not be lamented nor shall they be buried, but they shall be like refuse on the face of the earth. They shall be consumed by the sword and by famine, and their corpses shall be meat for the birds of heaven and for the beasts of the earth.”

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 16:10-13
10  “And it shall be, when you show this people all these words, and they say to you, ‘Why has Yahweh pronounced all this great disaster against us? Or what is our iniquity? Or what is our sin that we have committed against Yahweh our Elohim?’

11  then you shall say to them, ‘Because your fathers have forsaken Me,’ says Yahweh; ‘they have walked after other [false] elohim and have served them and worshiped them, and have forsaken Me and not kept My Torah.”

12  “And you have done worse than your fathers, for behold, each one follows the dictates of his own evil heart, so that no one listens to Me.”

13  “Therefore I will cast you out of this land into a land that you do not know, neither you nor your fathers; and there you shall serve other [false] elohim day and night, where I will not show you favor.”

Ramban cycles, Deeds of the Fathers, Nachmanides

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 16:14-15
14  “Therefore behold, the days are coming,” says Yahweh, “that it shall no more be said, ‘Yahweh lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,’
15  “…but, ‘Yahweh lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north and from all the [other] lands where He had driven them.’ For I will bring them back into their land which I gave to their fathers.”

Zaphnath-Paaneah: “the one who reveals secrets”

We explain how the name given to Joseph (Zaphnath-Paaneah) means “the one who reveals secrets”, and the relationship with the ‘land of the north’.

B’reisheet (Genesis) 41:45
45  And Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphnath-Paaneah. And he gave him as a wife Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Pherah priest of On. So Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.

Strong’s H6847
צָפְנַת    פַּעְנֵחַ    tsâphnath pa‛nêach
Of Egyptian derivation; Tsophnath-Paneach, Joseph’s Egyptian name: – Zaphnath-paaneah.

Wikipedia: Tzaphnath-Paaneah
Rashi (11th–12th century CE) in his commentary on the Torah gives the meaning “explainer of hidden things”. Nachmanides (13th century) gives “explainer of secrets“, while Bahya ben Asher (13th–14th century) gives “the one who reveals secrets”…

…The reason for these translations is that the feminine noun (צָפְנַת Ṣāp̄naṯ) refers to something hidden/secret in Hebrew, deriving from the root (צפן ṣ-p-n), meaning “to hide, conceal“; while (פַּעְנֵחַ Paʿnēaḥ) is a verb deriving from the root (פענח p-ʿ-n-ḥ), meaning “to discover, decipher, decode“. This would give us the literal translation of “Zaphnath-
Paaneah” from Hebrew as “He [who] deciphered the Hidden“.

Strong’s H6828
צָפֹן    צָפוֹן    tsâphôn    tsâphôn
From H6845; properly hidden, that is, dark; used only of the north as a quarter (gloomy and unknown): – north (-ern, side, -ward, wind).

Strong’s H6845
צָפַן    tsâphan    tsaw-fan’
A primitive root; to hide (by covering over); by implication to hoard or reserve; figuratively to deny; specifically (favorably) to protect, (unfavorably) to lurk: – esteem, hide (-den one, self), lay up, lurk (be set) privily, (keep) secret (-ly, place).

Wikipedia: Yin and Yan
…with the original meaning of the words being the north-facing shade [yin] and the south-facing brightness of a hill [yang]…

The second Exodus

And how the first Exodus from Egypt corresponds with the second great Exodus from the world, when Jospeh’s punishment of the Assyrian Diaspora comes to a full end, and Ephraim returns home in the time of the Ingathering…

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 16:15
15  “…but, ‘Yahweh lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north and from all the [other] lands where He had driven them.’ For I will bring them back into their land which I gave to their fathers.”

B’reisheet (Genesis) 28:13-15
13  And behold, Yahweh stood above it and said: “I am Yahweh Elohim of Avraham your father and the Elohim of Yitzhaq; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants.”
14  “Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
15  “Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.”

And the prophecies concerning Ephraim’s return (or the second great Exodus).

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 16:15-16
15  “…but, ‘Yahweh lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north and from all the [other] lands where He had driven them.’ For I will bring them back into their land which I gave to their fathers.”
16  “Behold, I will send for many fishermen,” says Yahweh, “and they shall fish them; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.

B’reisheet (Genesis) 25:27
27  So the boys grew. And Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Yaakov was a mild man, dwelling in tents.

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 16:17-21
17  “For My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from My face, nor is their iniquity hidden from My eyes.”

18  “And first I will repay double for their iniquity and their sin, because they have defiled My land; they have filled My inheritance with the
carcasses of their detestable
and abominable idols.”

19  O Yahweh, my strength and my fortress, My refuge in the day of affliction, The Gentiles shall come to You From the ends of the earth and say, “Surely our fathers have inherited lies, Worthlessness and unprofitable things.”

20  “Will a man make [false] elohim for himself, Which are not elohim?
21  “Therefore behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know My hand and My might; And they shall know that My name is Yahweh.”

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 17:9-10
9  “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?
10  “I, Yahweh, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.”

Brit Chadasha portion: Luqa (Luke) 14-15

In this week’s Brit Chadasha portion we explain the difference between observing Shabbat according to the written Torah versus keeping Shabbat according to rabbinic Talmudic Replacement Theology.

Adding fence laws

We explain how the first-century Pharisees (today’s rabbis) added fence laws which are not commanded in the written Torah, and how the prohibition to heal on the Shabbat was one such fence law not commanded in Yahweh’s written Torah…

Luqa (Luke) 14:1-4
1  Now it happened, as He went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath, that they watched Him closely.
2  And behold, there was a certain man before Him who had dropsy.
3  And Yeshua, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”
4  But they kept silent. And He took him and healed him, and let him go.

‘Torah law’ vs written Torah of Moshe

How the term ‘Torah law’ refers to rabbinic and Talmudic writings, and not to the written Torah of Moshe (Yahweh’s Torah)…

Sefaria-Talmud Shabbat prohibitions against healing

Luqa (Luke) 14:5-6
5  Then He answered them, saying, “Which of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?”
6  And they could not answer Him regarding these things.

The Shabbat Yahweh wants

And the true purpose of keeping Shabbat (what Elohim wants for us), which is to be refreshed and in the right relationship with  Him.

Shemote (Exodus) 31:17
17  “It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’ “

Strong’s H5314
נָפַשׁ    nâphash    naw-fash’
A primitive root; to breathe; passively, to be breathed upon, that is, (figuratively) refreshed (as if by a current of air): – (be) refresh selves (-ed).

Talmudic Replacement Theology

We explain why it is important to follow the commandments of Elohim the way He commanded, without adding to, taking away, or changing His words (or else, we are no longer keeping His maritial covenant, but another replacement covenant)…

Devarim (Deuteronomy) 12:32
32  “Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.

And cover examples of how Talmudic Replacement Theology adds to Yahweh’s Torah.

Talmud Replacement Theology, Shabbat work prohibition, anti-Torah

The following quotes are from MyJewishLearning.com:

“The Bible does not specifically list those labors that are prohibited on the Sabbath, although it alludes to field labor (Exod. 34:21; Num.15:32-36), treading in a winepress and loading animals (Neh. 13:15-18), doing business and carrying (Isa. 58:13; Jer. 17:22; Amos 8:5), traveling (Exod. 16:29-30), and kindling fire (Exod. 35:2-3) as forbidden work…”

[No relationship to tabernacle.]

“…Beyond Torah: What Can and Can’t We Do?
In the Mishnah, the Rabbis enumerated 39 major categories (with hundreds of subcategories) of labor that were forbidden (avot melachah) based on the types of work that were related to the construction of the Tabernacle in the wilderness,
which ceased on the Sabbath
(Shab. 7:2)…”

My Jewish Learning: Shabbat 7:2 Fence Laws
“…Activities that cannot be performed on the Sabbath are basic tasks connected with preparing the showbread of the Temple (sowing, plowing, reaping, binding, threshing, winnowing, selecting, grinding, sifting, kneading, baking)…”

My Jewish Learning: Shabbat 7:2 Fence Laws
“…work related to making the coverings in the Tabernacle and the vestments used by the Kohanim (shearing sheep, bleaching, carding, dyeing, spinning, stretching material, making two loops — the beginning of sewing, threading needles, weaving, separating, tying a knot, untying a knot, sewing,
tearing)…”

My Jewish Learning: Shabbat 7:2 Fence Laws
“…activities concerned with writing and the preparation of parchment from animal skin (trapping or hunting, slaughtering, skinning, curing hides, scraping pelts, marking out a hide to make ready for cutting, [actual] cutting), writing, erasing…”

My Jewish Learning: Shabbat 7:2 Fence Laws
“…constructing (building, demolishing), kindling a flame (lighting or extinguishing), carrying (from private to public domain, and vice versa), and putting the finishing touches to a piece of work already begun before the Sabbath…”

My Jewish Learning: Shabbat 7:2 Fence Laws
“…The Rabbis decreed that one not only should avoid forbidden acts but also must not do anything that:
(1) resembles a prohibited act or could be confused with it,
(2) is a habit linked with a prohibited act, or
(3) usually leads to performing a
prohibited act…”

My Jewish Learning: Shabbat 7:2 Fence Laws
“…The rabbinic enactment of measures to prevent these possibilities was termed “putting a fence around the Torah” (Avot 1:1). For example, ripping up a piece of paper was forbidden since it resembles “cutting [paper] to shape” or could be confused with [cutting paper to shape]…”

Sefaria Pirkei Avot 11, fence laws, Talmudic Replacement Theology, Talmudistan

My Jewish Learning: Shabbat 7:2 Fence Laws|
“…Similarly, agreeing to buy something was prohibited, because most agreements are confirmed in “writing”; [also] climbing a tree is forbidden, because it may lead to breaking twigs or tearing leaves, which could be construed as “reaping” (i.e., separating part of a growing plant from its source)…”

Warning: adding to or taking from Yahweh’s Torah

Devarim (Deuteronomy) 4:1-2
1  “Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which Yahweh Elohim of your fathers is giving you…”
2  “You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of Yahweh your Elohim, which I command you.”

Mattityahu (Matthew) 5:17-18
17  “Do not think that I came to destroy the Torah or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but [only] to fulfill.
18  “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the Torah till all is fulfilled.”

Obeying Yahweh’s will and desires

We give examples of when rabbinic fence laws go against Yahweh’s will and commandments.

Luqa (Luke) 14:5-6
5  Then He answered them, saying, “Which of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?”
6  And they could not answer Him regarding these things.

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 12:3
3  “And on the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.”

(For example, what happens if birth and circumcision fall on the Shabbat?)

Discipleship vs excuses

Luqa (Luke) 14:15-27
15  Now when one of those who sat at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, “Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of Elohim!”
16  Then He said to him, “A certain man gave a great supper and invited many…

17  “…and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, ‘Come, for all things are now ready.’
18  “But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you
to have me excused.’…”

19  “…And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.’
20  “Still another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’…”

21  “So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.’…”

22  “And the servant said, ‘Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.’
23  “Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

24  “For I say to you that none of
those men who were invited
shall taste my supper.’ “

25  Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them,
26  “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

27  “And whoever does not bear
his
cross and come after Me
cannot be My disciple
.”

About the term ‘cross’

Many people have an issue with using the term ‘cross’. We briefly explain that while the ‘cross’ object has pagan background, it was nevertheless an instrument of death used in the Roman empire, and that it does not seem problematic that Rome would use a symbol of Tammuz or another pagan symbol for punishment purposes.

Strong’s G4716
Σταυρός    stauros    stow-ros’
From the base of G2476; a stake or post (as set upright), that is, (specifically) a pole or cross (as an instrument of capital punishment); figuratively exposure to death, that is, self denial; by implication the atonement of Christ: – cross.
Total KJV occurrences: 28

Parable of ‘counting the cost’

We explain the parable Yeshua gave about ‘counting the cost’, and what this parable means for every believer in HaMashaich Nagid (Yeshua). We see that there is a cost of placing Elohim’s kingdom before all else for those who claim to be Yeshua’s disciples.

Luqa (Luke) 14:28-30|
28  “For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it—
29  “lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,
30  “saying, ‘This man began to
build and was not able to finish.’”

Luqa (Luke) 14:31-33
31  “Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?
32  “Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks
conditions of peace.”
33  “So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.”

Parable of the prodigal son

Lastly, we take a look at the long-lost prodigal son, and how Yeshua is describing the lost ten tribes of the children of Israel (the northern house of Israel)…

Luqa (Luke) 15:11-13
11  Then He said: “A certain man had two sons.
12  And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood.
13  And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.”

Prophecies over the house of Ephraim…

B’reisheet (Genesis) 41:52
52  And the name of the second he called Ephraim: “For Elohim has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.”

Strong’s H669
אֶפְרַיִם    ‘ephrayim    ef-rah’-yim
Dual of a masculine form of H672; double fruit; Ephrajim, a son of Joseph; also the tribe descended from him, and its territory: – Ephraim Ephraimites
Total KJV occurrences: 180

Strong’s H672
אֶפְרָתָה    אֶפְרָת
‘ephrâth    ‘ephrâthâh    ef-rawth’, ef-raw’-thaw
From H6509; fruitfulness; Ephrath, another name for Bethlehem; once used in Psa_132:6 perhaps for Ephraim; also of an Israelitish woman: – Ephrath, Ephratah.
Total KJV occurrences: 10

Strong’s H6509
פָּרָה    pârâh    paw-raw’
A primitive root; to bear fruit (literally or figuratively): – bear, bring forth (fruit), (be, cause to be, make) fruitful, grow, increase.
Total KJV occurrences: 29

Prophecies of Ephraim’s return home…

Luqa (Luke) 15:18-24|
18  “I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you,
19  “…and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ‘

20  “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.
21  “And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight,
and am no longer worthy to be
called your son
.’…”

22  “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.

23  “And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry;
24  “for this my son was dead and is
alive again; he was lost and is
found.’ And they began to be
merry.”

The older brother

And how the ‘older brother’ in the parable of the prodigal son represents the house of Judah…

Luqa (Luke) 15:25-28
25  “Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.
26  “So he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant….”

27  “And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and because he has received him safe and sound, your father has killed the fatted calf.’
28  “But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him.”

Judah’s death curse upon Joseph

We explain the ‘older brother’s’ (Judah’s) death curse over the house of Ephraim (Joseph) and all non-orthodox Judaism sects…

Luqa (Luke) 15:29
29  “So he answered and said to his father, ‘Behold, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time! And yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends!”

30  “But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him!’
31  “And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours….”

32  “‘It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.’”

We pray this study was a blessing.
Shabbat shalom.
