Parashat Vayeira
Vayeira, Vayera, or Va-yera (וַיֵּרָא — Hebrew for “and He appeared”).
The parasha tells the stories of Avraham’s three visitors, They announce the miraculous birth of a son to the elderly Sarah. Avraham intercedes for the sinful cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, bargaining with Elohim for mercy. However, the cities face destruction, and Lot's family is spared. The narrative includes the binding of Yitzhak (Isaac), a test of Avraham's devotion to Elohim. Ultimately, an angel halts the sacrifice, reinforcing Elohim's approval. Vayeira explores themes of hospitality, divine intervention, and the profound trials that test Abraham's faith, portraying a pivotal moment in biblical history.
