This video is the ninth segment of the video series Spirituality and Heart Matters. What is the gift of prophecy and how do we do it? Why is it the gift of prophecy so important? In this video, we will see the special role this spiritual gifting plays in unifying Yeshua’s body.

Defining prophecy (to prophesy)

Before we talk about the role prophecy plays in unifying Yeshua’s body, first let us recap what we have already learned. In “The Two Types of Prophecy“, we learned that to prophesy is to speak or sing by inspiration.

OT:5012. Naba’ (נָבָא); a primitive root; to prophesy; i.e. speak (or sing) by inspiration (in prediction or simple discourse):
[Without interference by the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, or pride (ego)].

We also learned about the two different types of prophecy, known as prediction and simple discorse (talking) and examples of each type from Scripture.

1. A prediction (foretelling)- A very special gift that comes from Yahweh.
2. Discourse (forthtelling)- A common gift that anyone of us can develope, if we take the discipline to do so.

The first of the two types of prophecy is known as foretelling, or a prediction. This is a special gift that Yahweh only gives when He has a message to give to His people, Israel.

The second of the two types of prophecy is known as forthtelling, or simple discourse. It is a common gifting that we should all ask Yahweh for and take the discipline to develope. Forthtelling is when we focus on Yeshua, we abide in Yeshua (in the vine), and we are connected to Yahweh through Yeshua. So that we are listening for His voice and speak according to it.

While the first of the two types of prophecy (foretelling) requires prediction, the second type of prophecy (forthtelling) simple requires us to listen in the Spirit, remain in Yeshua, and speak according to the Spirit.

Hear and obey My voice

We also learned that, on the day Yahweh took our ancestors out of the land of Egypt, He gave commanded them to do two things. To obey His voice, and to do according to all that He commanded them. We learned that this means doing two separate things, obeying Yahweh’s voice and obeying His written commandments. And that obeying His voice means that we listen for and hear His voice.

Prophecy and unity

In this segment, we will take a look at how we are all meant to seek the spiritual gift of prohecy, and how prophecy unites Yeshua’s body together. We will see how unity is necessary in order to build Yeshua’s global, unified kingdom. And that prophecy and the leadership of the Five-Fold ministry is a key part of unifying around the original faith.

Ephesim (Ephesians) 4:11-13
11 And Yeshua Himself [Yeshua Himself commanded this] gave some to be apostles [those who can hear in the Spirit, having the gift of prophecy and also a gift for the doctrine], some prophets [who can also hear in the Spirit and speak according to it], and [in addition to that] He gave some to be evangelists, and some pastors and teachers.
[Why did he give these gifts?]
12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Messiah [because you need these gifts to do this],
[And how long is it supposed to last?]
13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of Elohim, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Messiah;
[we are not there yet].
