The video “Let’s Not Break Deuteronomy 16:9” is part 3 of the Establishing the Head of the Year series. Each barley season there are conflicting barley witnesses. One barley inspector will say “Yes, the aviv barley is ready!” And then another barley inspector will say “No, there is no aviv barley yet.” And each barley inspector will have different definitions of what aviv barley is, how much barley is required, and how to recognize barley, in order to declare the head of the Hebrew year (Rosh HaShanah).
In this video, Apostle Norman Willis explains what he has learned about how to accurately qualify aviv barley, in order to accurately declare Rosh HaShanah (the head of the Hebrew year). He learned about aviv barley back in around 2001-2003 from the Karaites themselves. And has followed it very closely ever since because all the other feasts key off the barley, which sets the initial start date for the year.
Today, as the priesthood for Nazarene Israel, Norman’s job is to interview and qualify the witnesses to the aviv barley so that we can know when to start the head of the year, so that all the rest of the feast days fall into place. “Let’s Not Break Deuteronomy 16:9” explains why the we should not base Rosh HaShanah off of the Aviv Karaite barley sightings, due to their violation of Deuteronomy 16:9.
If you have not yet done so, it is important that you have read or listened to our previous study called “Aviv Barley Simplified” in order for this chapter easier for you to understand.
Barley witnesses in Israel
Norman will explain that there are some real differences between the two main witnesses to the barley who live in the land of Israel. And that while there are other teams that come in from outside of Israel, they both key off these two main witnesses who live in the land of Israel.
One of these barley witnesses is Becca Biderman, a believer in Mashiach Yeshua.
The other is a Karaite by the name of Devorah Gordon, she runs a Karaite barley search service called Devorah’s Date Tree. She emphasizes that she is not a representative for the Karaites, and it is allegedly an interfaith group, however they use the Karaite theology. And because of this we will talk about what is called ‘observer bias’.
Karaite theology
In this video, we will explain why the Karaite theology is anti-Yeshua, and why this causes a type of blindness when it comes to accurately defining aviv barley. We will explain how this incorrect definition of aviv barley changes the way the Karaites declare Rosh HaShanah, leading to a late observance of all Yahweh’s feasts every year.
We want to emphasize that we have absolutely no issue with Devorah’s date Tree’s new moon reports. However, for the reasons that we will discuss in this video, we cannot qualify their barley reports. And that it because of the Karaite theology that Yeshua HaMashiach, as well as the Apostle Shaul (Paul), warned His body to take head of the doctrine of those outside Yeshua’s body. That is, the leaven of the Pharisees (rabbis) and the Saducees (Karaites).
Matthew (Matityahu) 16:6
6 Then Yeshua said unto them, Takeheed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.”Qolossim (Colossians) 2:16-17 KJV (CORRECTED VERSION)
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come;
but [except] the body of [Messiah].
Messiah the First Fruits
Specifically, we will take a look at the importants of offering Yahweh Elohim the very first firstfruits of the barley on Yom HaNafat HaOmer (the Day of the Wave Sheaf Offering). We will see how this is prophetic of Yeshua our Firstfruits, and why this is a deep-rooted reason for the Karaites offering up something other than the firstfruits each year.
1 Corinthians 15:20
20 “but now Messiah is risen from the dead and he has become the First Fruits of those who have fallen asleep.”
1 Corinthians 15:23
23 “but each one in his own order, first Messiah the First Fruits and then afterwards those who are Messiah’s at His coming.
False harvest doctrine vs Deuteronomy 16:9
Then we will examine the false doctrine of bringing in the harvest first, rather than offering the firstfruits to Yahweh first, prior to the harvest. We will see that, in order to follow the harvest doctrine, the Karaites cannot avoid violating Deuteronomy 16:9, and why this is a problem on so many levels.
(Devarim) Deuteronomy 16:9-10
9 you shall count seven weeks for yourself: begin to count the seven weeks from the time you begin to put the sickle to the standing grain.
10 Then you shall keep the feast of weeks of Shavuot or Pentecost to Yahweh (or Elohim).”
Defining aviv barley correctly
In this video, we will also provide information on the correct way to scripturally define aviv barley, and how to declare Rosh HaShanah accurately, with visual examples. We will explain why, to this date in time, Becca Biderman is the only barley inspector in the land of Israel who’s barley reports Nazarene Israel is able to qualify.
