This video explains how the Jewish Messiah’s name is both spelled and pronounced, including the Hebrew and Greek references. And if you find this topic on the Messiah’s name interesting, you may also want to watch our study on the Divine Name, or read our study on the “Set-apart names” in NISS vol. 1. In this video, we will talk about the following topics and more:
How to spell (and not spell) the Messiah’s name
We will talk about what the meaning of a ‘name’ (shem) is in Hebrew, and why is it important to use the correct names for Elohim and Messiah’s name.
שֵׁם
OT:8034 shem (shame); a primitive word…’
an appellation [proper name for entreaty],
as a mark or memorial of individuality; by implication honor, authority, character:
Shemote (Exodus) 3:15
15 Moreover Elohim said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘Yahweh Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’
How to prounce the Messiah’s name
We will explain how Yahweh’s name is included in the Messiah’s name and what that means for the Messiah’s character. We will break down the Hebrew spelling for Yahweh and how the name Yeshua contains His Father’s name.
Yochanan (John) 5:43
43 I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive.
Judah’s substitution for the Messiah’s name: ‘Yeshu’
We will explain why the rabbinical substitution of ‘Yeshu’ (יֵשׁוּ) is a blasphemous acronym for “Y’mach Shemo V’zichro”, (“May His name and His memory be blotted out).” We will also show that this substition does not include the Father’s name in the spelling. And why followers of Yeshua HaMashiach should not use the shortened name of ‘Yeshu’.
Mattityahu (Matthew) 23:39
39 “…for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of Yahweh!”
Christians’ substitution for the Messiah’s name: ‘Jesus’ (Iesus)
There are many teachers who will claim that ‘Jesus’ is a correct transation of the Messiah’s name. We will explain that ‘Jesus’ is not the Messiah’s name, but rather, a Roman-Greco Babylonian substitution with pagan roots, adopted into the ‘church’ during Roman rule. And that, as the apostle Shaul warned, this great falling away from the Hebraic, original faith would first occur before the Lost tribes would return home.
Thessaloniquim Bet (2 Thessalonians) 2:3
3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first…
We will explain how this ‘great falling away’ from the true Hebraic faith into a Roman-Greco religion would cause both Yahweh’s name and Yeshua’s name to be changed to reflect the names of Roman-Greco diety, and why this is such a big problem.
Ma’asei (Acts) 4:12
12 “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
The Great Falling Away, and the return to the true faith
As we explain in Nazarene Israel: The Original Faith of the Apostles, Yeshua was sent to bring the Lost Tribes of Israel back to the land of Israel, back to the the Hebrew language, and back to the Torah. And that this would be a multi-step process which would take thousands of years. We talk about all these things and much more about Messiah’s name in this video.
