Joseph Translate: The Rabbis Want YOU Dead! (Berakhot 28b-29a)

“The Rabbis Want YOU Dead!” (And they pray for it daily!)

In this satirical video, the house of Joseph revisits the Birkat HaMinim and Orthodox Judah’s (often hidden) goal to either kill or enslave all non-Orthodox Jews! We translate Rabbi Mizrachi’s Talmudic death curse, showing that if you are not Orthodox Jewish, then the Rabbis Want YOU Dead!

Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 6:9-10
9 And He said, “Go, and tell this people: ‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand; Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’
10 “Make the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes; Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And return and be healed.”

Mattityahu (Matthew) 13:16
16 “But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear”;

BIRKAT HAMINIM:
Orthodox prayer 3 times every weekday.

For the apostates [meaning anyone who has left Orthodox Judaism, such as Yeshua (or Jesus), and everyone who follows Him] let there be no hope! And uproot the kingdom of arrogance speedily and in our days! May the Nazarenes and [all] the [other] sectarians [or the other “minim”] perish, as in a moment!  Let them be blotted out of the Book of Life, and not be written together with the righteous! You are praised, O Adonai, who subdues the arrogant!”

The Birkat haMinim (Hebrew: ברכת המינים “Blessing on the heretics”) is a curse on heretics which forms part of the Jewish rabbinical liturgy. It is the twelfth in the series of eighteen benedictions (Shemoneh Esreh) that constitute the core of prayer service in the statutory daily ‘standing prayer’ of religious Jews.”

This is embedded in a baraita of the tractate on Blessings (b. Ber. 28b–29a) written during the Mishnaic period. Early modern printed editions, including the Soncino edition of 1484, have a slightly different version in which the minim are identified as the Sadducees [modern-day Karaites].

“The addition of Nazarenes to the standard reading suggested that, were the Talmudic accounts of the formulation of the prayer historically grounded, a Jewish consensus that Christians in their fold were heretical had consolidated itself already by the first decades after the destruction of the Second Temple.”

Babylonian Talmud Tractates (non-exhaustive list) about:

Prohibition of Torah study by (Orthodox Judah’s definition of) ‘gentiles’.

“Rabbi Ami said: the words of Torah may not be transmitted to a gentile!”
[Tractate Chagigah 13a, Sefaria]

“He said to them: We learned with regard to them the secrets of the Torah: “Honey and milk are under your tongue” (Song of Songs 4:11), meaning that matters that are sweeter than honey and milk should remain under your tongue. In other words, one should not speak of such matters, and anyone who is familiar with them may not reveal them to others.”
[Tractate Chagigah 13a, Sefaria]

And Rabbi Yoḥanan says: A gentile who engages in Torah study is liable to receive the death penalty; as it is stated: “Moses commanded us a law [torah], an inheritance of the congregation of Jacob” (Deuteronomy 33:4), indicating that it is an inheritance for us, and not for them.

“The Gemara answers: There, in the baraita, the reference is to a gentile who engages in the study of their seven mitzvot. It is a mitzva for a gentile to study the halakhot that pertain to the seven Noahide mitzvot, and when he does so he is highly regarded.”
[Talmud Tractate Sanhedrin 59a]

“And Rabbi Yoḥanan says: A gentile who engages in Torah study is liable to receive the death penalty; as it is stated: “Moses commanded us a law [torah], an inheritance of the congregation of Jacob” (Deuteronomy 33:4), indicating that it is an inheritance for us, and not for them.”
[Talmud Tractate Sanhedrin 59a, Sefaria]

Orthodox Judah’s goal for enslaving Joseph

“And Reish Lakish says: A gentile [because according to Talmudic perspective, there is no Joesph, only Judah] who observed Shabbat is liable to receive the death penalty, as it is stated: “And day and night shall not cease” (Genesis 8:23), which literally means: And day and night they shall not rest.”
[Talmudic Tractate Sandhedrin 58b, Sefaria]

“This is interpreted homiletically [figuratively] to mean that the descendants of Noah may not take a day of rest.”
[Talmudic Tractate Sandhedrin 58b, Sefaria]

“And the Master said (57a) that their prohibition is their death penalty, i.e., the punishment for any prohibition with regard to descendants of Noah is execution.”
[Talmud Tractate Sanhedrin 58b, Sefaria]

“Ravina says: if a [Josephite] gentile descendant of Noach observes a day of rest on any day of the week [meaning especially Shabbat for Joseph, but also Sunday for Esav, or Friday for Ishmael], even if they do not normally set aside a day for religious worship, e.g., on a Monday, he is liable [to die].
[Talmud Tractate Sanhedrin 58b, Sefaria]

Sexual intercourse with minors

“Since a nine-year-old boy is fit to engage in intercourse, he also imparts ritual impurity as one who experienced ziva. Ravina said: Therefore, with regard to a female gentile child who is three years and one day old, since she is fit to engage in intercourse at that age, she also imparts impurity as one who experienced ziva.”
[Tractate Avodah Zarah 37a]

“Rava said that this is what the Mishna is saying: An adult man who engaged in intercourse with a minor girl less than three years old has done nothing, as intercourse with a girl less than three years old is tantamount to poking a finger into the eye.”
[Talmud Tractate Ketubot 11b, Sefaria]

“Rabbi Yirmeya of Difti says: We learn in another mishna (Nidda 44b) as well that one follows the majority even in cases of capital law: A girl who is three years and one day old whose father arranged her betrothal can be betrothed with intercourse, as, despite her age, the legal status of intercourse with her is that of full-fledged intercourse.”
[Talmud Tractate Sanhedrin 69a, Sefaria]

“Rav Ḥisda said: Come and hear the mishna: If the girl is less than that age of three years and one day, intercourse with her is like placing a finger into the eye. Why do I need the mishna to teach: Like placing a finger into the eye? Let it teach simply: If she is less than that age, intercourse with her is nothing.

“What, is it not correct that this is what the mishna teaches us, by its comparison to an eye: Just as placing a finger in an eye causes it to tear and tear again, when another finger is placed in it, so too after the intercourse of a girl under three the hymen disappears and comes back again?”
[Talmud Niddah 45a, Sefaria]

Rabbinic self idolatry

New and old, which I have laid up for you, O my beloved,” the Congregation of Israel said before the Holy One, Blessed be He, and continued: Master of the Universe, I have decreed many decrees upon myself through the enactments and ordinances of the Sages, more than what You decreed upon me in the Torah, and I have fulfilled them. These are the new laws which were added to the old ones stated in the Torah.”
[Talmud Tractate Eruvin 21b, Sefaria]

“My son, be careful to fulfill the words of the Sages [soferim] even more than the words of the Torah. For the words of the Torah include positive and negative commandments, and even with regard to the negative commandments, the violation of many of them is punishable only by lashes. Whereas with respect to the words of the Sages, anyone who transgresses the words of the Sages is liable to receive the death penalty,”
[Talmud Tractate Eruvin 21b, Sefaria]

“As it is stated: “And whoever breaches through a hedge, a snake shall bite him” (Ecclesiastes 10:8), taking hedges to refer metaphorically to [rabbinic] decrees.”
[Talmud Tractate Eruvin 21b, Sefaria]

“Whereas with respect to the words of the Sages, anyone who transgresses the words of the Sages is liable to receive the death penalty,”
[Talmud Tractate Eruvin 21b, Sefaria]
