Two House Theory

This first part of “Two House Theory” is the fourth segment in the video series Two Houses of Israel. In this video, Norman Willis explains the basics of the Two Houses of Israel. We recommend it as a basic study to understand your identity in the people of Israel as a Nazarene. Join us as we take a journey through Israel’s past and discover where we are today, how we got here, and where we are going next in Bible prophecy.

Jacob’s 12 sons, 12 tribes of Israel

To understand the Two House Theory, first, we must understand who the 12 sons of Jacob (Abraham’s grandson, also known as Israel) were. We will explain that Jacob’s (Israel’s) 12 sons became the 12 tribes of Israel, which at that time, was one undivided house. Once we understand the background of Jacob’s sons as the 12 tribes of Israel, we can understand how this one unified house of Israel broke up into two separate houses.

The Kingdom Divide

We will see that Joseph (Jacob’s oldest son of Rachel) was sold into Eygpt by his brothers. After which, all of Jacob’s sons and their descendants would spend 430 years in Egypt. Then, after freed from Egypt, another 480 years of Judges would pass in the land of Israel. We will that under the rule of King David and under the rule of his son, King Solomon, the kingdom was still one, undivided kingdom. Then, after King Solomons’ reign ends, the kingdom is split into two separate kingdoms. (Melachim Aleph (1 Kings) 11-12)

The Two House Theory

After the divide, we see that there was a northern kingdom, and there was a southern kingdom. We will see why it is important to understand that there are currently two houses. And the difference between the house of Israel (Ephraim, Joseph) and the house of Judah (our brother Judah). And then we will see the common mistake of thinking that the ‘house of Israel’ is the same as the ‘house of Judah’.

  1. “Northern Kingdom”
    “House of Israel”
    “House of Ephraim”
    “House of Joseph”
    10 northern tribes
  2. “Southern Kingdom”
    “House of Judah”
2 tribes: Judah, Benjamin (as well as the also majority of Levi)

Assyrian dispersion,  Assyrian captivity, The Diaspora

We will see that the tribes of the northern house of Israel (known since as The Lost Ten Tribes) were taken into the Assyrian Dispersion, also known as the Assyrian captivity or The Diaspora. We will see that these lost ten tribes of the northern house of Israel (the house of Ephraim, the house of Joseph) are hidden today inside of Christiandom. We will see how the Church is mystery Babylon and that we are told to ‘come out of her’.

Mattityahu (Matthew) 15:24
24 But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

Hitgalut (Revelation) 18:4
4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.

Babylonian Exile

The Jews of the southern house went into the Babylonian Captivity, otherwise known as the Babylonian Exile. And then later, in 70 CE, into the Roman Captitivy (the Roman Exile). We will see that, while the majority of the southern house of Judah (Judah and Benjamin) has returned home, we have not yet seen the northern house of Israel (the house of Eprhaim/Joseph) return home to Israel.

Yahweh’s plan and promise

Now that we have the background of who the two houses are, and the understanding that the Lost Ten Tribes of the house of Israel (northern house, Joseph, Ephraim) were dispersed among all the nations, we will talk about the the prophetic purpose of Jacob’s seed spreading to all four corners of the earth, and Elohim’s promise that He would one day bring them back home.

B’reisheet (Genesis) 28:13-14
13 And, behold, Yahweh stood above it, and said, I am Yahweh Elohim of Abraham thy father, and the Elohim of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
14  And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
