Talking About the Barley with Messianic Sister Becca Biderman

“Talking About the Barley” is a recorded discussion with Messianic sister Becca Biderman, who lives in Israel and has been researching the barley intensely. Ideally, we want at least two (or ideally three) witnesses to the barley. However, as of 2021-02-05, Becca Biderman is the only qualified barley witness that we know of. (We hope this will change in the future.) This discussion about the barley gives important information on how to correctly declare Rosh HaShanah (the Head of the Hebrew Year) so that we know when to observe Yahweh’s feasts at His timing each year.

There are many other calendar groups with alternate calendars, and we need to understand what Yahweh’s word says about the barley so that we see why these calendars are wrong, so that we only follow Yahweh’s calendar. Because if the King of the Universe wants to meet with His people, we should be on time and not show up late for His feasts!

Torah Calendar look-a-likes

As we explain in the Establishing the Head of the Year video series, the book Torah Calendar, and other NI studies, there are several rabbinic, karaite, and even Messianic barley-groups today that teach a calendar different from Yahweh’s calendar. Many of those groups claim to be teaching a ‘Torah Calendar’, and have many followers. But when we examine Scripture, we see that these calendars contain significant manmade additions, substitutions, and omissions, which Yahweh specifically commands us not to do.

Devarim (Deuteronomy) 4:2
2 “You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of Yahweh your Elohim which I command you.”

It is very important to understand that making even one small change to Yahweh’s commandments means that it is no longer Yahweh’s word that we are following, but someone else’s. And Yahweh does not like that! He wants us obeying His voice and His commandments. Not our own, and not someone else’s.

Beware of the leaven

We explain the prophetic, spiritual significance of Yahweh’s feasts in the The Feasts and the Ancient Hebrew Wedding video series, Feasts of the First Month, and Feasts of the Seventh Month, and that Yahweh’s feasts are all about His Son! And one of the key things to understand about the wavesheaf offering is that it symbolizes Yeshua who is the firstfruits offering.

Qorintim Aleph (First Corinthians) 15:20-23
20 But now Mashiach is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Mashiach all shall be made alive.
23 But each one in his own order: Mashiach the firstfruits, afterward those who are Mashiach’s at His coming.

Today, many Christians and Messianics follow the Karaite (modern-day Sadducees) calendars and the Rabbinic (Pharisee) calendars. There are many problems with this. The Karaites (Sadducees) and the rabbis (Pharisees) do not accept Yeshua as the Mashiach. And because they do not accept Yeshua, they also incorportate changes into their calendars, which in turn, causes them to observe Yahweh’s feasts at the incorrect times. For example, the Karaites misdefine the wavesheaf offering. Because of this, they do not give Yahweh the true ‘firstfruits’ of the field (representing Yeshua, our FirstFruit), but instead they a much later, harder, browner offering from within the harvest. And due to this, the Karaites declare Yahweh’s feasts late every year.

As another example, other groups create manmade rules that do not exist in Yahweh’s Torah, which cause them also to declare Yahweh’s feasts at the incorrect times. And when Yahweh gives us specific directions to meet with Him a His specific times, and then we show up late, that is a huge problem! This is why Yeshua specifically warned His disciples to ‘beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees”! For more on the specific errors in these other calendars, please view Establishing the Head of the Year.

Matthew 16:6
6 Then Jesus said to them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.”

Talking About the Barley

Again, there are many different calendar groups, and they all claim to be following the Torah. But when we look at Scripture, we see significant differences. And this is why it is important for Yahweh’s people to know what His word says, and to understand how to apply His instructions in real-life.

This is the only way that we will be able to recognize when another teaching does not match Yahweh’s word. In this video, Becca Biderman gives detailed explanation about why aviv barley needs to be medium dough (not soft dough, and not mature), according to Scripture. And we will talk about the errors that the other barley observers are making. Join us as we talk about the barley!
