Rosh HaShanah 5785 / 2025 and feasts
The table below shows two possible scenarios for Rosh HaShanah 2025 depending on the new moon sighting from Israel. Neither scenario is confirmed at this time.
As we explain in our calendar studies, before Nazarene Israel can declare Rosh HaShanah (the head of the Hebrew year), an omer’s worth of aviv barley [true firstfruits] would have to be ready to present 15-21 days later (on Yom HaNafat HaOmer, the Day of the Wave Sheaf Offering).
In simple terms, in order for Nazarene Israel to declare the next new moon day (expected on the evening of 1 March 2025) as Rosh HaShanah (scenario #1 below), we must be sure that there will be an omer’s worth of aviv barley for the Yom HaNafat HaOmer date of 16 March 2025. The determination must be made not later than the sighting of the first crescent sliver of the new moon. If no determination can be made, then we watch for scenario # 2 (below).
As of 21 February 2025, we have no reports of an Omer’s worth of barley nearing the aviv stage in time for declaring Rosh HaShanah at the next new moon (expected on the evening of 1 March 2025). As for weather, Israel is expecting another cold front next week, bringing snow to some areas. As always, we must watch and see what Yahweh does.

We encourage everyone to remain attentive as we continue to post updates on our Torah Calendar News page. We also encourage those new to the Torah Calendar to check out our studies which explain how to correctly declare Rosh HaShanah and the importance of observing the correct calendar. A list of studies can be found below in the “calendar studies” section.
Feast schedule 5785-6 / 2025
The next feast schedule for year 5785-6 / 2025 will be posted after confirmation of Rosh HaShanah, in accordance with the biblical Torah Calendar. Please watch for updates as we continue to receive reports from Israel.
How to correctly declare Rosh HaShanah
To declare the biblically correct Rosh HaShanah, Nazarene Israel must be certain that an omer quantity of the firstfruits of barley (in Israel) will be ready (in its aviv stage) within the 15-21 day time frame after the new moon sighting (in time for Yom HaNafat HaOmer, or the Day of the Wave Sheaf Offering). In simple terms, to declare Rosh HaShanah, we need to have an omer’s worth of aviv barley firstfruits ready to offer for Yom HaNafat HaOmer.
Other calendars claim to be biblical calendars, but get the timing wrong every year, which leads many to celebrating the feasts at the wrong times. This is because other calendars use non-biblical concepts not found in the written Torah when declaring the new year.
As we explain in our studies, declaring Rosh HaShanah too late (as the Karaites usually do) would cause Yahweh’s firstfruits to be lost. In contrast, when we declare Rosh HaShanah at the time when the firstfruits of aviv barley will be ready for Yom HaNafat HaOmer, 15-21 days after the new moon, everything aligns perfectly!

Keeping the correct calendar is important in order to meet with Yahweh on the days that He appointed to meet with us. We have many studies explaining how to keep the calendar according to the written Torah commandments, and why it is important. For more on how the Biblical Hebrew new year is determined (and how it is not determined), and how you and your family can keep the true biblical calendar (the Torah Calendar), please see the studies in the table below.
