March Rosh HaShanah 5784 / 2024

The new moon of the 1st Hebrew month 2024 was seen from the land of Israel on the evening of March 11, 2024. Rosh HaShanah 5784 / 2024 (the head of the Hebrew year) was on the evening of March 11, 2024. All calendar news can be found at Torah Calendar News page.

Why this is Rosh HaShanah (and not a 13th or 14th month).

Many calendars claim to be biblical calendars. The Hillel II calendar, Karaite calendars, Messianic calendars, and the Equinox / Lunar calendars all declare the new year at different times according to different doctrines. The problem is when these doctrines and qualifications for declaring the new year do not follow what the written Torah says. Nazarene Israel believes it is important to keep the written Torah of Moshe, and to not add to or take away from Yahweh’s commandments.
In order to make a declaration of Rosh HaShanah 2024, Nazarene Israel must be certain that a quantity of barley firstfruits (in Israel) will be ready (in its aviv stage) within the time frame of 15-21 days after the sighting of the new moon (in time for Yom HaNafat HaOmer, or the Day of the Wave Offering). In simple terms, in order to declare Rosh HaShanah on March 11, 2024, we need to have a quantity of one omer of aviv barley firstfruits ready to offer for Yom HaNafat HaOmer (March 31, 2024).
As we explained in our studies, declaring Rosh HaShanah too late (as the Karaites often do) would cause the first fruits of Yahweh to be missed. In contrast, when we declare Rosh HaShanah at the time when the first fruits of the living barley will be ready for Yom HaNafat HaOmer, 15-21 days after the new moon, everything lines up perfectly!
Barley inspector Becca Biderman’s report for March 8-10, 2024 shows that there is enough live barley in the land of Israel to have an omer value for Yom HaNafat HaOmer on March 31, 2024. These firstfruits of aviv barley are already beginning to break (when thumbed by hand). And these firstfruits will not last until Yom HaNafat HaOmer if Rosh HaShanah is declared in April.
With this report, Nazarene Israel has confirmed that we will have the amount of first fruits of live barley for Yom HaNafat HaOmer to take place on March 31, 2024.
